1-#TheDells were an American R&B vocal group. Formed in high school in 1952 by founding members Marvin Junior, Verne Allison, Johnny Funches, Chuck Barksdale, and Mickey and Lucius McGill, under the name the El-Rays, they released their first recording in 1954, and two years later, had their first R&B hit with "Oh What a Night". After disbanding due to a near-fatal car crash in 1958, the band reformed in 1960 with Funches being replaced by Johnny Carter. This lineup remained together until Carter's 2009 death. 2-#EarthWindFire is an American band that has spanned the musical genres of R&B, soul, funk, jazz, disco, pop, rock, Latin, and Afro-pop. They have been described as one of the most innovative and commercially successful bands of all time. Earth, Wind & Fire is known for its horn section, energetic and elaborate stage shows, and the contrast between Philip Bailey's falsetto vocals and Maurice White's baritone. Of the band's songs, two have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame is "That's the Way of the World" in 2004 and "Shining Star" in 2007. 3-#Commodores are an American funk/soul band, which was at its peak in the late 1970s through the mid-1980s. Summer has reportedly sold over 100 million records worldwide, making her one of the world's best-selling artists of all time. 5-Lena Mary Calhoun Horne (June 30, 1917 – May 9, 2010) was an African American singer, dancer, actress, and civil rights, activist. Horne's career spanned over 70 years appearing in film, television, and theater. Horne joined the chorus of the #CottonClub at the age of 16 and became a nightclub performer before moving to Hollywood, where she had small parts in numerous movies, and more substantial parts in the 1943 films Cabin in the Sky and Stormy Weather. She announced her retirement in March 1980, but the next year starred in a one-woman show, #LenaHorne : The Lady and Her Music, which ran for more than three hundred performances on Broadway. She then toured the country in the show, earning numerous awards and accolades. Horne continued recording and performing sporadically into the 1990s, disappearing from the public eye in 2000. REMEMBRANCE 2018 The Middle Passage

he Charleston Remembrance Committee conducted The 21st Annual Charleston Middle Passage REMEMBRANCE Program, paying homage and tribute to the millions of Africans who perished in the Middle Passage. #middlepassageremembrance #sullivansisland #charleston #explorecharleston The Middle Passage refers to the part of the African Holocaust during which captive Africans were crammed into the cargo holds of ships like livestock, bound for chattel slavery in the Americas. These living, breathing men, women and children who had families, hopes, dreams and aspirations, were stripped of any sense of humanity. Historians estimate that 10 - 20 million Africans died from disease, starvation, suicide and murder during this torturous voyage. Indeed, author and historian, Dr. John Henrik Clarke proclaimed, “If the Atlantic were to dry up, it would reveal a scattered pathway of human bones, African bones marking the various routes of the Middle Passage.”

Saturday, June 9th, 2018, the public is invited to Fort Moultrie on Sullivan’s Island for the 21st annual memorial and healing rite in Charleston, SC. Similar programs will take place simultaneously at numerous ports around the world, including New York, California, Washington, Virginia, Panama, The Virgin Islands, Brazil, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Ghana. Remembrance programs are held on the Atlantic coast or near another body of water. Charleston is an important historical location for this tribute as it was the port of entry for 40 to 60 percent of enslaved Africans arriving to America’s shores as human cargo. www.RemembertheAncestors.com
